The DeKalb County Board of Education sent letters home with Lakeside High School students Monday saying that some may have been exposed to someone with a case of tuberculosis.
The DeKalb County Board of Health will give TB skin tests on Tuesday, Feb. 16, for free at the school to students and staff members who may have been exposed. Those taking the test will have to return on Thursday, Feb. 18 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the school so the results can be checked.
Two letters were sent home with students, one letter for those who may have been exposed and a second for students the school believes were not exposed, counseling those with concerns to have the child tested by a family doctor or at the Board of Health.
Even if your child has received BCG (Bacille Calmette-Guerin, a vaccine that is given during childhood to many foreign-born persons to prevent childhood tuberculosis disease), the Board of Health still recommends testing, the letter reads.
The letters for those who may have been exposed have information and need to be signed and filled out by a parent.
