Like every school across the country, Buford City Schools wants to ensure quality learning isn’t interrupted when teachers need to take time off. So the district is offering substitute teacher training 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23 at Buford City Schools office, 2625 Sawnee Ave, Buford.

All substitutes have to pass a background check that includes fingerprinting.

A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required. For long term assignments, like maternity leave, a teaching certificate is required.

Buford keep an available pool of substitutes but there isn't an exact number.

Substitutes are called for assignments, but the school district is currently in the process of moving to an electronic alert system.

Buford City Schools is also looking for substitute nurses. Each school has  a full-time nurse that needs coverage from time to time.

Pay is based on the individual’s level of education.
