Hull Middle School in Gwinnett County has been named the State Champion of the 2014 Professional Association of Georgia Educators Academic Bowl for Middle Grades, as the competition celebrates its 30th anniversary season. The team, coached by Teresa Hawkins, won top honors against eight other finalist teams in single-elimination competition sessions similar to that of Jeopardy, answering questions from all academic subjects.

Oboist Saffiya "Saffy" Bashey, an eighth-grader at Holy Innocents' Episcopal School, has earned the first chair oboe spot for the Georgia Music Educators Association District V Honor Band, which will play on Feb. 7-8 at Northview High School.

Holy Innocents' Episcopal School ninth-grade cellist Clarisa Colton has made All-State Orchestra, and ninth-grade clarinet players Ben Davies and Zain Bashey have been accepted into All-State Band and District Honor Band for the year. Both the band and orchestra are under the auspices of The Georgia Music Educators Association, one of 51 state affiliates of the National Association for Music Educators.

The National Art Honor Society has named Osborne Middle's art teacher, Dallas Gillespie, as National Junior Art Honor Society Sponsor of the Year. The award honors Gillespie's dedication in leading an outstanding student chapter. The National Art Society will officially present the award to Gillespie during the National Art Education Association Conference held in March in San Diego, Calif.

Fulton County Schools recently accepted a $50,000 donation from AT&T to fund a Communities in School site coordinator at Roswell High School. The funds will make it possible to have a specialized staff member at the school who will focus on improving students' progress toward graduation. The CIS coordinator will build relationships with students who are struggling, identify their unmet needs and mobilize community support to meet those needs.

Walton High School and Kennesaw Mountain High School have been awarded the PrintED Industry Accreditation for their CTAE Graphic Communications Program. PrintEd, administrated by the Graphic Arts Education and Research Foundation, is a national accreditation program based on industry standards for secondary and post-secondary graphic communications courses. PrintED certified programs provide students with a credential that validates mastery of academic and workplace competencies for 21st century jobs, upon the student's successful completion its skill connect assessment.
