Clark Atlanta University has been named the August School of the Month by the Tom Joyner Foundation. The designation includes daily promotion on the "Tom Joyner Morning Show" nationally syndicated radio program to generate scholarship donations from listeners and CAU alumni.

Six Georgia students received Buick Achievers Scholarships as part of a $100 million scholarship program for students pursuing careers in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Precious Gibson (Atlanta), Ashton Grant (Augusta), Jaquavius Jones (Bainbridge), Thaxton Lipscomb (Lawrenceville), Melissa Moyer (Atlanta) and Olivia Pruitt (Cumming) will receive up to $25,000 in four or five-year renewable college scholarships. The program is funded by the General Motors Foundation.

Sharon Wilson, a biology teacher at Mundy's Mill High School in Jonesboro, was selected as one of 65 educators to participate in the 2014-2015 National Education Association Science Master Teacher Project. The science portion of the Master Teacher Project follows similar math and English/language arts programs, and are designed to produce more than 15,000 free lessons and tools for use by teachers nationwide through the BetterLesson collaborative.

North Springs Charter High School graduate Veronica Sondervan is completing work this summer at the U.S. Department of Agriculture ARS Plant Germplasm Preservation Research Unit in Fort Collins, Colorado. Sondervan was one of 33 high school and college students chosen for the national Wallace-Carver Fellowship program, hosted by the USDA and Wold Food Prize Foundation. Her fellowship involved working with leading American scientists and political leaders to improve the country's food system.

The six schools in the Lanier Cluster of Gwinnett Public Schools received $50,000 in teacher-requested grants this month from the Lanier Education Foundation. The cluster schools include Lanier High and Middle schools, along with Sugar Hill, Sycamore and White Oak elementaries, and the T. Carl Buice School.

GreyStone Power Foundation Inc. awarded scholarships to five Georgia high school graduates. Autumn Cole (Alexander High School), Madeline Detraz (Chapel Hill Hill School), Courtney Knight (North Paulding High School), Karim Lakhani (Douglas County High School) and Deja Stith (Westlake High School) received $3,000 toward their college costs. The scholarships are funded by utility members who voluntarily round up their power bills to the next dollar each month. GreyStone Power serves members in eight northwest Georgia counties.

Holy Innocents' Episcopal School in Atlanta received a $1 million gift toward the school's endowment to provide financial aid for needy students. The gift will establish the Inglett Family Financial Aid Fund, and is named for former school trustee Ray Inglett Jr., who died in March. Inglett served in various leadership roles at Holy Innocents' school and Episcopal Church, including co-chairman of the schools' executive board, and as a trustee. He was also a lifetime donor to the school.
