Agnes Scott College officials on Friday celebrated the completion of a $16 million renovation to Rebekah Scott Hall, which was built more than a century ago.
The hall is home to some students and some administrative space. It’s the most expensive renovation project the college has completed, officials said.
The renovations also included work to make the hall more energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable. Many of the building’s materials were refurbished and reused, including the doors, molding and hardwood floors.
The hall has been certified LEED Platinum by the U.S. Green Building Council, college officials said. LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. Platinum is the highest-level rating.
The hall was originally constructed in 1906, the same year officials changed the name of the school from Agnes Scott Institute to Agnes Scott College. A prior renovation was completed in 1986 and the exterior was redone in 2015.
The hall is part of the South Candler Street-Agnes Scott College Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
