Lil Nas X took home four Billboard Awards on Wednesday night, but it was what was on his head not in his hands that created social media chatter.
The metro Atlanta native stunned fans with a familiar look when he arrived on the red carpet for Wednesday’s award show. The hip-hop star ditched his signature cowboy hat for what appeared to be a wavy-texture wig and an aesthetic that reminded many fans of “Purple Rain"-era Prince.
The “Panini” rapper was on hand to accept his four awards during the show, including one award for the Hot 100 song for “Old Town Road,” which set the record for most weeks at No. 1. He was second only to Post Malone for nominations. Post Malone won nine awards during the show.
As for Lil Nas, whose real name is Montero Hill, his new look gave his fans more to chatter about than who won what Wednesday night. He previewed the look on his Twitter with the caption: “Not the Bayannng,” an ode to the popular TikTok trend.
