Three people sustained non-life-threatening injuries Wednesday afternoon in a crash involving a car and a school bus, DeKalb County fire officials said.

The crash happened on Clifton Church Road at Sugar Creek Cove, leaving a Chevrolet Impala in a crumpled mess and the school bus off the road and up a small embankment. The car’s driver was temporarily trapped before being transported to the hospital, according to Capt. Eric Jackson with the DeKalb fire department.

Cedar Grove High School students on the bus were returning from a field trip to the Georgia Aquarium at the time of the crash, Channel 2 Action News reported. One student credited the bus driver with helping those aboard avoid serious injuries.

The bus driver and another adult on the bus were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Jackson said. One student sustained a minor ankle injury, Channel 2 reported.

The Chevrolet’s driver is expected to be charged in the crash.
