After turmoil at Six Flags Over Texas last week, roller coaster safety has been a question on everyone’s mind.

Now, the talk may be a little too close to home.

Austell mom, Stephanie Shearer, took her 7-year-old son to Six Flags Over Georgia Monday. Shearer, a little nervous after hearing of the incident from Texas, watched him get on the Mine Train. The coaster, though smaller in size, it is very quick and makes sharp turns.

“He all of a sudden looked very panicked and very scared,” she said. “He started pointing to the safety bar and I realized it was not down.”

The operator had already started the ride so Shearer started screaming.

“Luckily the operator had heard us screaming and stopped the ride.”

Shearer says then the operator walked over and slammed the bar down and started the ride back up as quickly as it came to a stop.

“It’s horrible,” she says. “I’m just in awe.”

Six Flags only issued the following statement with no further comment:

“The safety of our guests and employees is our top priority. We investigated the situation described by this guest and the ride was not initiated until all guests were secured safety on the ride.”

“I simply want an acknowledgement that there a gross negligence that happened and an apology. Just acknowledge that there was a mistake, make sure it doesn’t happen to someone else,” Shearer commented.
