A woman was struck and killed by a garbage truck Wednesday after walking her child to a school bus stop, Lilburn police said.
Lidia Riveas-Martinez was returning home after dropping off her child at the bus stop for Hopkins Elementary School just before 7:30 a.m., Lilburn police Capt. Thomas Bardugon said in a statement. That’s when she walked behind the garbage truck in the 5100 block of Burns Road. The truck was backing up at the time of the incident.
Riveas-Martinez, 41, of Lilburn, was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, where she died.
“Police do not anticipate charges against the driver,” Bardugon said. “There is no indication that alcohol or drugs were involved.”
