After a hearing Friday, a Gwinnett County magistrate found there was enough evidence to send a man charged with killing his girlfriend’s 16-month-old son to Superior Court.

Police contend Cody Lorenzo Williams killed the toddler, Noah Nolan, on July 21.

“Accused struck child with great force in the face two times with the heel of his hand and shook the child roughly,” an arrest warrant obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution states.

Williams was the only adult alone with the child and admitted to hitting and shaking the baby, said Tracie Cason, the prosecutor in the case.

The case was bound over to Superior Court with Williams charged with murder, aggravated battery and first degree cruelty to children.

The saga began around 10 p.m. July 21, when police were called to the Sienna Heights apartments on Graves Road, near Norcross, on a report of a deceased child, said Cpl. Jake Smith, spokesman for Gwinnett police. Noah was transported to a hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival, Smith said.

Williams, the boyfriend of Noah’s mother, was caring for him at the time the child’s death was reported. Address records show Williams lived at the complex.

A resident of the complex said she watched as the toddler's mother, whose name was not released, sat on the pavement crying with her hands over her face after learning of the boy's death.
