Gwinnett County school board members chose names Thursday evening for three schools under construction.

Jordan Middle School, which will be in Lawrenceville, is being named after H. Rhodes Jordan, who was the city’s mayor on four separate occasions between 1963 and 1988.

Baggett Elementary School, which will be on Old Norcross Road in the Lawrenceville area, is named after Boyd Q. Baggett, a former Gwinnett principal.

Graves Elementary School, which will be in Norcross, is being named after Avery A. Graves, a World War II veteran, civic leader and former educator in Gwinnett and other Georgia counties.

Gwinnett officials asked residents to submit suggested names for the schools. A committee of parents and educators reviewed the recommendations, with help from the Gwinnett Historical Society.

The schools are scheduled to open in 2015.
