Georgia authorities have arrested a man who they believe killed a woman and stuffed her remains in a bin behind her home.

On Sept. 3, the Baltimore Police Department found the remains of Mason Moldoven, 28, who had been fatally stabbed and stuffed in a large plastic container in the backyard of her home in the 1100 block of Gorsuch Avenue.

During the course of their investigation, police had identified Timothy Callanan as a suspect in the killing. On Sept. 12, deputies from the McIntosh County Sheriff’s Office arrested Callanan after a high-speed pursuit on Highway 95 in Georgia, police said. An arrest warrant was later issued that charged the 26-year-old with murder.

Earlier this month, detectives received information that someone had been killed and that the deceased’s body was at that location, according to reports.

Her remains were taken to the local medical examiner’s office, but police said it appeared she had been stabbed. Neighbors said several people lived at her home, and they had recently noticed a stench in the air and several flies swarming around the home.

“How could we let stuff like that go on around us and we not know?” a neighbor said. “How could I not know that something weird was around me? I’m thinking it’s the garbage. When the trash men come by, you smell things, and they leave some juices behind, but it really was a bad, bad odor, but I just couldn’t pinpoint it.”

Callanan was transported to a detention facility in Georgia, where he is awaiting extradition to Maryland.

Members of the Baltimore Police Warrant Apprehension Taskforce and the U.S. Marshals Service assisted with tracking Callanan to Georgia.
