Metro Atlanta is expected to hit 90 degrees Friday in between scattered showers and storms.
Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said he can’t rule out a stray sprinkle during the morning hours, but most of the rain will hold off until after lunch. There is a 40% chance of precipitation Friday, according to Channel 2.
“After lunchtime, not only does the heat and humidity build, but so does the rain chance,” Monahan said. “We’ll have some scattered showers and storms into the afternoon.”
Atlanta is starting the day in the low 70s. Temperatures will rise throughout the morning, Monahan said, before reaching the 80s at midday. The city should reach peak temperatures early this afternoon, which also carries the best possibility of rain.
“The amount of sun we’re going to see is going to drop a little bit over the next few days,” Monahan said. “If I had to pick Saturday or Sunday for my outdoor plans, I would pick Saturday, because Sunday our rain chances are going to go up.”
There will still be rain to dodge Saturday, he said. After isolated showers in the morning, scattered downpours are expected to develop Saturday afternoon, and some could have heavy rain, according to Channel 2.
The rain chance increases from 40% Saturday to 60% Sunday.
“We’ve got this cold front to our north and west, and this is slowly going to draw its way toward North Georgia Sunday and Monday,” Monahan said. “That’s going to mean more widespread rain.”
Temperatures will come down a bit Sunday with more rain around, he said. The cold front will break apart and come closer to North Georgia on Monday, according to Monahan, which will produce more rain.
Drier days are on the horizon.
“By Tuesday rain chances come down by about 30%,” Monahan said. “But a wet finish to the weekend and start to next week.”
