A frigid start across North Georgia is not an indication of what’s to come Friday.
Temperatures in the 20s and 30s may be the lowest they’ve been all week, but Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said the region will warm up pretty quickly. Friday should be a nice day, he said.
“Here’s the thing today: Some high clouds to start and by the afternoon it’s mostly sunny,” Monahan said. “Eight hours of sunshine, that’s going to get us back into the mid-50s for highs later today.”

A projected high of 54 degrees is right where it should be for this time of year, he said. There is no rain in the forecast Friday, and the dry conditions should continue into the start of the weekend.
Saturday will be the best day for outdoor plans, Monahan said.
“The amount of sun drops in a big way by the second half of the weekend,” he said. “We’ve got five hours of sun early in the day on Saturday, and next to no sunshine on Sunday. We’ve got wet weather coming in on Sunday.”
Clouds rolling into North Georgia in advance of a cold front will block out the sun, he said. The region will turn mostly cloudy by Saturday afternoon, and Monahan expects many will wake up to rain on Sunday morning.
There is an 80% chance of showers throughout the day, according to Channel 2. The clouds will help to warm things up, however.
“We’ll be in the low 60s to finish the weekend, and then much colder weather moves in early next week with highs in the low 40s,” Monahan said.

Volume is lighter than normal on metro Atlanta interstates Friday morning, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
“Believe it or not, I think were going to escape with a pretty decent rush hour this morning,” traffic reporter Mark Arum said.
No major crashes or backups have been reported as of 6 a.m.
