North Georgia will continue in a pattern of sunshine and dry conditions heading into the Labor Day holiday weekend, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Humidity has dropped on the other side of Tropical Depression Ida, and the weather forecast is looking pretty nice for the region. Channel 2 meteorologist Eboni Deon said it is feeling even better, with morning lows in the mid-60s Friday.

Temperatures are headed for a projected high of 85 degrees in Atlanta, just slightly below average for this time of year, according to Channel 2.

“Weather conditions are are going to stay quiet and dry today,” Deon said. “That will extend all the way through Sunday. We’ll have a few clouds mixed in with sunshine. We’re not expecting our rain chances to go up until, unfortunately, Monday, but even then it will not be a washout.”

After a 10% chance of showers on Sunday, Deon said scattered thunderstorms become 30% likely Monday afternoon. Most of the rain will be confined to the afternoon Monday, which could get in the way of any outdoor grilling plans.

There is “no need to rush out of the house if you are heading down into the city” on Friday morning, WSB traffic reporter Heather Catlin said. There are no major delays on metro Atlanta highways, and trip times are holding steady on Ga. 400, I-85 and I-75, despite a little extra volume on I-75 in from the northern suburbs, Catlin said at 6:30 a.m.

“But remember, today is Friday before Labor Day weekend, and it is going to be jampacked on I-75 starting around noon, so give yourself some extra time,” she said.

The Georgia Department of Transportation will be restricting construction-related lane closures beginning Friday to help alleviate holiday travel congestion. The restrictions will remain in place through Tuesday.
