Commuters could encounter areas of wet pavement Friday morning after a cold front brought showers to North Georgia overnight.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said the region avoided any big thunderstorms as the system moved through. There could be some lingering sprinkles on the Southside early Friday morning, but Monahan said for the most part metro Atlanta is drying out.

“The humidity is going to be dropping and it turns out to be a nice afternoon,” he said. “Seventy-seven degrees — short sleeves and shorts weather here on the last day of April.”

The sky will clear gradually Friday, according to Channel 2. Only about six hours of sunshine are in the forecast, but sunnier skies and more comfortable conditions are in the forecast for the weekend.

“Ten hours of sunshine on Saturday and the humidity is going to be lower,” Monahan said. “It’s going to be a great day to get outside.”

Saturday’s projected high is 79 degrees. Sunday will get even warmer with a projected high of 81, but humidity will be on the rise again. Monahan said it will be noticeably stickier Sunday ahead of increasing rain chances early next week.

There is only one slow zone on metro Atlanta interstates to start the Friday morning rush, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. Authorities are still cleaning up an overnight car fire on the I-285 outer loop on the Southside.

Multiple right lanes and the ramps are blocked at the I-75 interchange in Clayton County, the Traffic Center reported. The closure is not impacting the ride on I-75.
