For those hoping for an end to the tropical conditions that pumped in humidity and primed North Georgia for daily storms, it won’t come Friday.

Another 60% chance of downpours is in the forecast Friday, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. It will be yet another wet afternoon, but Monahan said relief is coming for the weekend.

“Lower humidity and lower rain chances,” he said. “It’s not completely dry — it’s hard to do that this time of year as we get into these more tropical weather patterns — but it’s going to look a lot better as we go into the weekend.”

Light showers are falling Friday morning on the Southside. Monahan said rain activity will pick up and become more widespread as temperatures rise this afternoon, like it has every other day this week.

The projected high for Atlanta is 85 degrees.

Rain chances drop to 40% Saturday and 20% Sunday, according to Channel 2. While there will be fewer showers around, Monahan said the biggest change this weekend will be the easing of the muggy conditions.

“The wind, instead of coming out of the Gulf of Mexico, it’s going to come out of the north,” he said. “That’s going to drop our humidity a little bit tomorrow.”

By early next week, more dry air will filter into the region. While it won’t completely cut off rain chances, Monahan said it will be noticeably more comfortable Sunday and Monday.

With wet pavement in the southern suburbs and several early crashes, the Friday morning drive is off to a slow start, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

The biggest delays at 6:30 a.m. are on the outer loop of I-285 in DeKalb County. A crash was blocking two right lanes at Memorial Drive, contributing to a trip time of 25 minutes between I-20 and I-85, the Traffic Center reported.

Drivers should “pack your patience” and use the Downtown Connector to avoid the extra delays, according to the Traffic Center.
