Former President Jimmy Carter will be getting a COVID-19 vaccine.

The Jimmy Carter Center announced in a tweet Thursday night: “After consulting with his doctors, President Carter is looking forward to receiving the COVID-19 vaccine when it is available to him.”

Earlier this month, the 96-year-old Carter and his wife Rosalynn said that they were in full support of COVID-19 vaccine efforts and encourage everyone who was eligible to get immunized as soon as it became available.

Carter joins former presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama in promising to get the vaccination to instill confidence in the process that many people are still doubtful of.

More than 300,000 people in the United States have died from the coronavirus.

More than 3,600 people died from the virus on Wednesday.

President-elect Joe Biden is expected to get his first Covid-19 vaccination early next week and plans to get his shot in public.
