Election Day 2012 began on a soggy note across metro Atlanta, but the rain was well south of Atlanta by lunchtime.
The rain moved in around midnight, and by 10 a.m. Tuesday, rainfall totals included 1.04 inch at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, .91 inch downtown and 1.12 inches in Chamblee. In the northwestern suburbs, Dallas recorded 2.43 inches of rain from midnight to 10 a.m.
Weather radar at noon showed a few lingering showers along I-75 about halfway between Atlanta and Macon.
The wet roads likely contributed to a higher than normal number of wrecks during the Tuesday morning commute, but the roads shouldn’t be so damp for the drive home from work.
“I think we’ll end on a drier note for election day,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said.
Minton is Election Day highs in the low to mid-50s.
Wednesday will be partly cloudy, with highs in the mid-50s after morning lows in the low 40s.
Thursday through Saturday should be sunny, with highs climbing from the low 60s on Thursday to the upper 60s by Saturday, and morning lows in the upper 30s on Thursday and 40s Friday and Saturday.
