A pair of drug busts Thursday and Friday resulted in the seizure of 67 pounds of methamphetamine in central California, KFSN reported.
Fresno police and federal Drug Enforcement Administration agents found 11 pounds of meth on Thursday and discovered another 56 pounds in Dinuba, the Fresno Bee reported. In addition to the meth found Friday, police found nearly three pounds of cocaine, a handgun and 1,200 rounds of rifle ammunition, KFSN reported.
Fresno police Chief Jerry Dyer said the drug bust could be the largest by his force, according to the Bee.
Police arrested Francisco Rafael Gonzalez Navarro, 24; Alfonso Ortega Cruz, 38; and Ponce Orjelio Galvan, 25.
“No question this methamphetamine came across the border from Mexico, through a port of entry no doubt, hidden in a vehicle somehow and undetected,” Dyer said at a news conference Friday.
Dyer said that he could not identify the cartel, the Bee reported.
“There are several reasons for that,” Dyer said at Friday’s news conference. “One is, we do not want to compromise other investigations, and secondly, we do not want to get somebody killed.”
