A man armed with a knife and bat was shot and killed Friday afternoon by a Polk County deputy.
The man, whose name was not released, was shot shortly before 6 p.m. at a Hillside Drive home, near Cedartown, according to northwestgeorgianews.com. Sheriff Johnny Moats said the man was transported to a local hospital, but did not survive, according to the report.
The deputy was assisting other deputies with the suspect at the time of the shooting.
“The suspect was armed with a knife and a bat, and came at the officer,” Moats said.
The deputy’s name was not released. The GBI was assisting with the investigation late Friday.
Cedartown is located about 60 miles northwest of Atlanta.
