The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that two fugitives had been collared — and authorities didn’t even need to pay out the offered reward.

Demetrius Eugene Carter, 29, was arrested Friday during a traffic stop in Newton County when police discovered that DeKalb had issued an arrest warrant for him for the shooting death of Kevin Anthony Barnes on Aug. 16 in Decatur.

Carter was a passenger in a vehicle that police stopped for a traffic violation in Porterdale. The driver, an unidentified female, was not wanted in connection with the killing, according to DeKalb authorities. Crime Stoppers had posted a reward for information leading to Carter’s arrest, but police aren’t eligible for it.

On Monday, the DeKalb fugitive squad arrested Jeff Jerome Oglesby, 20, who was charged with shooting Damarcus Reed to death Saturday on Vicki Lane in Atlanta.
