Gwinnett County authorities on Friday identified the woman who was killed and the two men who were injured in a multi-car wreck near the intersection of Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Singleton Road on Thursday morning.

Cynthia Thornton, 59, of Norcross, sustained injuries and died at the scene of the accident. Jacob Nicholson, 22, of Gainesville suffered life-threatening injuries after being ejected from his vehicle as a result of the crash. Stephen Merritt, 42, of Tucker, was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

No injuries were reported for the three other drivers involved in the crash.

The wreck happened on Singleton Road at about 7:45 a.m., according to Gwinnett County police.

Gwinnett County Police accident investigators found that Nicholson had swerved into oncoming traffic and crashed into six vehicles. He was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center and remains in intensive care.

The primary investigator on the case intends to obtain arrest warrants for Nicholson. The charges include reckless driving, speeding, driving on the wrong side of the road, no seat belt, expired driver’s license and 1st degree vehicular homicide, according to the release.
