Two 19-year-year-old men were shot, one fatally, during an altercation at a Covington housing project Friday night, and a 16-year-old Covington youth was taken into custody.

Quintavian Vanard Johnson, 19, of Covington, died at the scene, according to Lt. Al Miller of the Covington Police Department told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The other 19-year-old was treated at the Newton Medical Center for a gunshot wound to the arm, it was reported in the Rockdale Citizen. Miller couldn’t immediately identify the wounded man, but said he didn’t believe his injuries were life-threatening.

The shootings occurred around 11 p.m. Friday at the Covington Housing Authority development, on Nixon Circle, Miller said.

Police have not released the name of the teen suspect, and have not revealed whether he will be charged as an adult or a minor.
