Police are seeking leads in the death of a man whose body was found 500 feet from his residence in Cobb County.

Melvin Moss, 49, who was reported missing Jan. 7, was found dead Feb. 21 in a wooded area between Village Parkway and Pasadena Boulevard in Smyrna, police spokesman Louis Defense said.

“It is believed the location where Mr. Moss’ remains were discovered is not the original crime scene,” Defense said.

Investigators want to hear from anyone who may have seen Moss or knows of his whereabouts from Jan. 7 to Feb. 21. Also, police want to meet with anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious in the area where Moss’ body was found from Feb. 18 to Feb. 21.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 770-434-6666. Tipsters also can remain anonymous, and be eligible for rewards of up to $2,000, by contacting Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477, texting information to 274637 or visiting crimestoppersatlanta.org.
