While Peachtree City police don’t know how the victims were specifically chosen, they say three burglaries committed Monday were by a group targeting those from Asia and the Middle East.

The burglary group wants jewelry and cash, Peachtree City police spokeswoman Lt. Odilia Bergh said in a news release.

“The responsible group has been identified as foreign nationals, primarily from South America, that are known to target homes belonging to residents from Asia and the Middle East,” Bergh said.

The crimes matched a pattern that police throughout the metro Atlanta area have seen before. Similar burglaries were reported in Athens in September.

The burglary teams of two to four men usually take two cars with out-of-state tags, Bergh said. Those cars may be rentals. One set of criminals is dropped off near the home, where they ring or knock on the front door, she said.

“Once the criminals confirm no one is home, entry is made by forcing a door or window on the rear of the residence,” Bergh said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Lt. Matt Myers at 770-632-4122 or via email at mmyers@peachtree-city.org.
