The east Cobb County man accused of shooting two electrical workers as they left his home Wednesday afternoon now faces a murder charge after one of the men died.
Larry Epstein, 68, was charged Friday with one count of murder in addition to two counts each of aggravated battery and aggravated assault, jail records show.
Cobb police took out another warrant against Epstein after 21-year-old Jake Horne of Marietta was taken off life support after being shot in the head.
Police said Epstein opened fire on Horne and his boss, 37-year-old Gordon Montcalm, following a contracting dispute at the upscale home along Wellington Lane. Montcalm was shot in the face, neck and arm, police said.
Cobb police were called to the home near Johnson Ferry Road just before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday when a neighbor reported gunshots. One of the men was found inside the home and another was found outside, Cobb police spokesman Officer Neil Penirelli said.
Epstein and a witness were taken into custody shortly after SWAT units were deployed to the neighborhood. Epstein remains held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond, jail records show.
A GoFundMe page set up Thursday to raise money for Horne's burial expenses had raised more than $6,000 as of Friday afternoon.
The page describes Horne as a “kind, smart, caring, loving person” who “didn’t deserve this.”
