A cold front sitting across North Georgia on Monday could trigger a few showers and storms later this afternoon, according to Channel 2 Action News.
The rain chance is not much at about 30%, but some of the storms could be on the stronger side. Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said the main impact would be some stronger wind gusts on either side of the front, from the mountains and down into the Southside.
A cold front will not mean cooler weather, however. Temperatures are again headed for the low 80s Monday afternoon, according to Channel 2. Atlanta’s projected high is 83 degrees
“The next couple of days are going to feel like a late spring kind of pattern with temperatures up in the 80s and even a few thunderstorms mixed in,” Monahan said.
There are no storms in the forecast Monday morning, he said. Metro Atlanta is starting the work week dry and warm with temperatures in the upper 60s. Monahan said there will be a slight chance of a pop-up shower by noon, and that chance increases by early afternoon.
“That storm risk will also come with the chance of a strong or severe storm later on today,” Monahan said. “This is the lowest level severe weather risk, a 1 out of 5. The threat in some of these storms that pop up is for some damaging wind gusts, and could have a little bit of hail as well.”
Rain could stick around through the late evening and overnight hours in the northeast Georgia mountains, but Monahan said it should wrap up overnight for another dry start Tuesday. Showers and storms are 40% likely Tuesday, and It will be even warmer with a projected high of 85 degrees for Atlanta, according to Channel 2.
Monahan said it will be much cooler on the other side of those storm chances later in the week. Afternoon highs drop down to 70 degrees for Wednesday and Thursday, and temperatures are not expected to leave the 60s Friday as a 60% chance of rain rolls in, he said.
There could be more drivers on the roads Monday now that Georgia's shelter-in-place order has been lifted, but the interstates are in good shape to start the day, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
There are no major delays on any metro Atlanta interstate, the Traffic Center reported at 6 a.m.
