The man who has been accused of killing his grandparents told authorities he drank about 30 beers before leading officers on a chase on I-20, Channel 2 Action News reported Thursday.

Andrew Jeremy Bryant, 46, was arrested Tuesday night in Taliaferro County after a chase that reached 100 mph at times, the station reported. Lawmen pulled Bryant from the truck he was driving, which belonged to his grandparents, after he hit a tree along the freeway, according to Channel 2.

This was about the time that the bodies of Charles and Betty Bryant were discovered in their Walton County home during a wellness check, Channel 2 reported.

Andrew Bryant lived in the basement of his grandparents’ home, Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman said. He’s being held without bond in the Walton County jail on charges that include malice murder and felony murder.

Authorities have not disclosed how the couple were killed.

Chapman said earlier that deputies were called to the house by the Bryants' son after he had a conversation with Andrew Bryant, which made the son concerned for the grandparents' safety.
