A Macon man was arrested in Florida on July 1 on four felony charges after allegedly kidnapping a woman.

Willie Harvey, 38, broke into a Tifton woman’s home and threatened her with a large knife and implied he had a gun, according to a Gainesville, Fla., police report.

The woman told police he blindfolded her and drove her across the state line in her own car, the report said. The woman said she did not know the man, and Harvey could not tell police the woman’s name or address.

Harvey and the victim stopped in Gainesville at a Circle K, where he told the woman to get a stainless steel scrubber pad, which is used to smoke crack cocaine, the report said. He was allegedly smoking narcotics during the incident.

Once inside, the woman called police on the store phone and went back to the car, fearing Harvey would kill her if she ran away, the report said.

A police officer responded to the call and followed the car, which matched the victim’s description on the phone. Harvey allegedly accelerated to more than 100 mph on the highway until the vehicle spun out of control and hit the guard rail, according to the police report.

Police reported Harvey ran out of the car and tried to jump a barbed wire fence, where he was apprehended about 100 yards from the vehicle.

He was charged with grand theft auto, kidnapping, attempting to elude an officer, robbery with a firearm and resisting an officer without violence, the arrest report said. He is being held on a $2.2 million bond.
