A man with residences in Forsyth and Cherokee counties was a bookie for an online sports gambling operation, the GBI said Thursday.

Frank Michael House, 54, facilitated bets and arranged collection and payment of debts and winnings, the GBI said.

Police in Fairfax, Va., began the investigation, GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said. The gambling activity was traced to residences off Somerset Court in Cumming and Santa Anita Trail in Woodstock.

Woodstock police, Forsyth County sheriff’s deputies and officials with the Georgia Department of Revenue took part in serving warrants Thursday, Miles said.

House was charged with felony commercial gambling, the GBI said. The investigation is ongoing.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
