The GBI is assisting with an investigation into a deadly shooting at a family Fourth of July gathering in Jackson County.
Arcade police said Matthew Michael Carr, 52, shot three adults at a home on the 400 block of Caruth Road on Wednesday night before turning the gun on himself, Channel 2 Action News reported.
“There were two females and one male,” police Chief Randy Williams said. “One was a girlfriend, the other female was her daughter, then the male was her daughter’s husband.”
He also said the girlfriend is 49 years old, and the daughter and her husband are both 22.
The three victims were taken to an area hospital. Williams told Channel 2 all three underwent surgery Wednesday night and the 49-year-old girlfriend remains in ICU.
Carr died from his injuries, GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said.
“Early indications are that the injuries were self-inflicted,” Miles said. “The investigation is active and ongoing.”
Williams said the motive is still unknown and investigators believe the girlfriend in ICU will “hold the key” to determining Carr’s motive.
