A Kennesaw man has been jailed in Cherokee County after he allegedly tried to meet a child for indecent purposes, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said Wednesday.

Thomas Arthur Ward, 60, is charged with six counts of obscene contact with a child and one count of distribution of obscene materials to a minor, Sgt. Marianne Kelley said.

Officials began an investigation using the Whisper app, which allows for anonymous interaction between users, Kelley said.

“There have been previous reports of Cherokee County juveniles being victimized on this same app,” Kelley said.
