Police are investigating a fatal crash on the East-West Connector that temporarily shut down part of the major Cobb County artery Wednesday afternoon.

The wreck involved one vehicle, and it happened between Cooper Lake and Fontaine roads, Smyrna police Sgt. Louis Defense told AJC.com. The driver, who was the only person in the car, was fatally injured during the crash.

The crash blocked all eastbound traffic and a westbound lane just after 3 p.m., but Defense confirmed the scene was cleared about 4:30 p.m., allowing all lanes to reopen.

The WSB 24-hour Traffic Center recommends taking South Cobb Drive and Concord Roads as alternates because the area remains congested.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact investigators at 770-434-6666.
