An Alabama man was arrested Thursday after police said he traveled to Pickens County to have sex with a minor.
An undercover officer posing as a 15-year-old girl met Edwin Brian Lumpkin, 27, through social media, according to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office. Lumpkin allegedly contacted the believed-to-be minor to engage in a sexual relationship.
According to police, Lumpkin told the “girl” he wanted to meet her and have sex, and even went as far as sharing nude photos.
The undercover agent set up a meeting with Lumpkin, who was arrested at a convenience store. Officials say he was taken into custody without incident.
Lumpkin was charged with sending obscene material to a minor and criminal attempt to commit child molestation.
Pickens County Sheriff Donnie Craig is encouraging parents to come forward if Lumpkin has been in contact with their children.
“I am urging all parents to be vigilant in knowing who your children are communicating with on social media,” he said.
