Authorities were on the scene investigating a chemical spill Tuesday at the resource building for the Gwinnett Medical Center.

A delivery box truck was leaking liquid hydrofluoric acid, also known as hydrogen fluoride, at the building in the 600 block of Duluth Highway in Lawrenceville, Gwinnett fire Lt. Colin S. Rhoden said.

Fire and hazmat crews were called to the site, where three people had been exposed to the chemical, he said. They were taken to the Gwinnett Medical Center.

When hazmat crews went inside the truck, they found a 5 gallon container leaned over with half the hydrofluoric acid spilled out, and crews were able to stop the leak, according to Rhoden.

The chemicals were not being delivered to the resource center, according to the Gwinnett Medical Center.

The chemicals are used for heavy cleaning, according to the Gwinnett County Fire Department.

Hazardous materials cleaning companies were called to clean up the spill.

The three people were observed at the hospital, but are doing fine, according to the Gwinnett Medical Center.
