A Cobb County husband and wife convicted earlier this month of stealing $1.3 million from the woman's former employer has been sentenced to prison, the office of District Attorney Vic Reynolds said.
A jury May 2 found Angela and Scott Williamson of Marietta guilty of racketeering charges.
Angela Williamson, 45, was convicted of three counts of Violation of Georgia Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, or RICO, Reynolds’ office said. Scott Williamson, 47, was convicted of two counts of RICO.
Cobb Superior Court Judge Reuben M. Green sentenced Angela Williamson to 40 years, with 15 years to serve in custody and the rest on probation. Scott Williamson was also sentenced to 40 years, with 2 years to serve in custody and the rest on probation. Each was ordered to pay $1.1 million in restitution to Angela Williamson’s former employer, InterContinental Marble.
Angela Williamson was the office manager for the company, which imports stone for fireplaces, beginning in 2000.
Company CEO Karen Geiger testified that she discovered in 2011 that Angela Williamson had written unauthorized checks to herself and paid personal bills with company funds.
At Tuesday’s sentencing, Geiger said Angela Williamson had been a trusted employee. “I’m still in shock,” she told the court.
In 1999, Angela Williamson pleaded guilty to stealing $135,000 from a previous employer, according to Kimberly Isaza, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office. She was granted “first offender” treatment, and the conviction was not revealed on later background checks, Isaza said.
