Child dies after fire in Cobb that also killed his mother

Neighbors could see flames shooting into the air when a home on Missy Way caught fire early Thursday morning.

Jan 1, 2019The child who was rescued from a house fire in Cobb County last Thursday has died, officials said Monday.
The blaze also killed the boy’s mother, identified as Teresa Elrod, 39, according to Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services.
Authorities said the cause of the early-morning blaze in the 4800 block of Missy Way outside Powder Springs is under investigation.
The boy had previously been listed in critical condition after being rescued from the home and taken to the hospital. His name and age were not released, but Channel 2 Action News reported he was middle-school age.
Fire officials said Richard Elrod called 911 about 12:30 a.m. to report the fire and that his wife and son were still inside.
