A 25-year-old New York man was shot and killed late Wednesday after he and several others chased the another man into a Target store in downtown Brooklyn, the New York Post reported.

Carlton Spencer was pronounced dead after he was shot in the chest on the second floor inside the City Point Mall, WNBC reported.

Authorities said several men, including Spencer, were following and harassing the 44-year-old gunman, with at least two people brandishing knives, WABC reported.

When Spencer tried to approach the man from the side, the shooter turned and fired a gun, police said. Spencer was unarmed, police said.

The other men in the group fled the area but were quickly taken into custody, along with the shooter, WNBC reported. Police have not released their names, the television station reported.
