On Sunday morning Joe Lyle listened intently to the pastor at Stonebridge Church, the Marietta house of worship frequented by the Justin Ross Harris, his wife Leanne and their late son Cooper.

On the minds on congregants: 22-month-old Cooper, who died after Justin Ross Harris allegedly left his son to die inside family’s SUV, and the explosive hearing last week that raised questions about whether his parents bear responsibility for his death.

Justin Ross Harris has been charged with murder. His wife, Leanne, has not been charged.

While Lyle believes Harris has “some issues,” he doesn’t see the 33-year-old IT specialist as a murder.

“I don’t think there was one iota of evidence against him at that hearing the other day,” said Lyle, 68.

Others think Justin Ross Harris is a murderer. Across metro Atlanta, and in Alabama where the Harris family lived until two years ago, the public is discussing the case and passing judgment on the Harris parents.

Like Trish Gates, of Lilburn, who said the death of Cooper Harris was the topic of conversation that dominated a neighborhood Fourth of July celebration she attended.

“We all agree he’s guilty as hell,” she said.
