A son faces an elder neglect charge after his mother was found dead with bed sores all over her body.

Edward Casey, 54, was booked into the Fulton County jail after his 84-year-old mother, Virginia Fritts, was found dead Friday.

Officers were called to a home on Roswell Green Lane, where they spoke with Casey, according to a police report.

“It began as a normal death investigation for an elderly person,” Roswell police officer Zachary Frommer told Channel 2 Action News. “Then the officer on scene started noticing some suspicious things."

Frommer said officers saw bed sores all over Fritts’ body and found that she was sleeping on box springs with no mattress.

“It appeared she hadn't been to a doctor in about a year and her prescriptions were not up to date,” Frommer told the news station.

Casey is out of jail on a $7,000 bond.
