A large area of rain began moving into metro Atlanta before daybreak Friday, and the showers are expected to continue into Saturday morning.
Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said the chance of rain is 100 percent Friday and 70 percent Saturday.
Scattered thunderstorms could accompany the rain, and some of Saturday's storms could be strong to severe, the National Weather Service warned.
Skies should be clearing by late Saturday afternoon, Minton said.
At 7 a.m., the rain stretched from the northeast corner of Georgia southwestward through metro Atlanta and into Alabama, generally along and north of the I-85 corridor.
Minton said afternoon highs will be in the mid-60s Friday and upper 60s Saturday, with lows Saturday morning in the upper 50s.
Sunday should be sunny, with highs in the mid-60s after morning lows around 40 degrees.
Sunday's sunshine will hold over into the first part of next week, with highs climbing into the mid-70s Monday and Tuesday, Minton said.
