Atlanta police are searching for a man accused of following a 12-year-old girl into her family’s Virginia-Highlands home.

Atlanta Police spokesman John Chafee said Saturday that the girl rode her bike home on Thursday and, in a rush to get something, forgot to fully shut the door. While she was home, the male entered the home and tried to force her upstairs.

The girl told police she screamed, pushed the man out of the way and ran from the home. The man then fled the scene in a gold car.

He’s described as a large white man in his thirties who is over 6 feet tall with light-colored hair. His vehicle appeared to be a small boxy gold car resembling a Toyota Prius.

Residents are asked to call 911 to report suspicious activity immediately. And anyone with information is encouraged to contact Atlanta’s Crime Stoppers unit at 404-577-8477.
