A man was killed Tuesday after running a red light in Forsyth County, the sheriff’s office said.

Christopher Lyle, 74, of the Cherokee County side of Alpharetta, was driving a tan 1994 GMC Sierra C1500 pickup truck east on Mary Alice Park Road just after 9:30 a.m., Forsyth County sheriff’s Cpl. Doug Rainwater said Thursday in an emailed statement.

About the same time, Michael Godfrey, 71, of Cumming, was traveling south on Marketplace Boulevard in a white 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck.

Mary Alice Park Road and Marketplace Boulevard intersect.

“The traffic signal for north and southbound Marketplace Blvd. was green, giving Mr. Godfrey the right of way,” Rainwater said. “The traffic signal for east and westbound Mary Alice Park Road was red.”

However, Godfrey and Lyle entered the intersection at the same time.

“The front end of the Dodge Ram impacted the driver’s side cab of the GMC Sierra,” Rainwater said.

Lyle died on the scene. Godfrey was taken to North Fulton Hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening.

The crash remains under investigation.
