A motorcyclist was killed late Thursday when the bike he was riding crashed on a Lilburn road.

The wreck happened shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Hood Road near Remington Court, according to Lilburn police Capt. Thomas Bardugon.

Bardugon said Troy Hermandson, 34, of Lilburn, lost control "while operating the vehicle at a high rate of speed, left the roadway and struck a mailbox before striking a power pole."

The force of the impact caused the 2012 Yamaha to split in two, Bardugon said. Hermandson died at the scene.

"Further investigation will be done in an attempt to more accurately determine the speed of the vehicle at the time of the accident," Bardugon said.
