A family of nine was able to get out safely when their DeKalb County home went up in flames early Friday morning.
The family, which includes two young children, escaped without injury before crews arrived to fight the blaze in the 3100 block of Chaparral Place south of Lithonia. It appears to have started in an upstairs bedroom in the back of the home, DeKalb County fire Capt. Dion Bentley told AJC.com.
Crews were called out around 3:40 a.m., and the fire was under control by 4 a.m. Bentley said its cause appears to be accidental.
On Thursday morning, another metro Atlanta family was forced out of their home by fire.
Two of eight family members were inside the home on Ellis Court in Snellville when fire broke out around 8:30 a.m. They both were able to get out before firefighters arrived.

The family, which is made up of three adults and five children, is receiving temporary assistance from the American Red Cross. Gwinnett County fire officials do not consider their home a total loss, but part of the structure is heavily damaged by fire and the entire house is damaged by smoke.
The Chaparral Place home is also not a total loss, Bentley said.
“One of the rooms suffered pretty good damage,” he said. “They did a good job containing it to the room of origin.”
