Massive flames destroy DeKalb home

DeKalb County crews battled a huge fire Monday afternoon that ate through the roof of a house.
The fire started around 4:30 p.m. at a home on Smithson Court in Lithonia, DeKalb fire officials said. Around 5 p.m., a car in the driveway also caught on fire, but those flames were quickly put out.
No one was injured in the blaze and it was deemed unintentional, the department said. Authorities did not say what started the fire.
Crews had extinguished most of the massive flames by 5:30 p.m. Large clouds of smoke could be seen for some time after rising into the sky, exposing the completely burned roof.
A neighboring home was also damaged from the radiant heat, officials said. In footage from NewsChopper2, the siding of the home appeared to be peeling.
