A gas line was fixed hours after it was damaged Monday and caused some northeast Atlanta businesses to have to be evacuated, authorities said.

Atlanta Fire Rescue blocked off Krog Street from Edgewood Avenue to Irwin Street about 10:30 a.m. due to the leak at a construction site, spokeswoman Alyssa Richardson said. According to Holly Lovett, a spokeswoman for Atlanta Gas Light, a contractor damaged a two-inch gas line.

Three unnamed businesses near the gas line were evacuated by firefighters.

Crews were at the scene for nearly two hours monitoring the atmosphere to ensure the area was safe for patrons and business owners. No injuries or illnesses were reported, Richardson said.

Atlanta Gas Light remained at the scene until about 2 p.m. making repairs.

“The safety of our employees, customers and the public is our No. 1 value,” Lovett said.

The area is home to Krog Street Market and several other restaurants and stores.
