Bomb threat closes East Point building

A bomb threat temporarily closed an East Point building that houses some government offices, the city’s fire department said Friday afternoon. But nothing suspicious was found.

A call from an unidentified man, threatening to “blow up the building,” was made at the Jefferson State Building around 1:30 p.m., according to Renita T. Shelton, fire department spokeswoman.

The director of the Child Support Agency called 911, and police and fire units were dispatched, Shelton said.

Investigators and canine units searched the building, which was evacuated. City employees were dismissed for the day, Shelton said. No injuries were reported.

The building was cleared shortly before 4 p.m.
