The body found Tuesday near Chosewood Park is a 25-year-old woman, officials said.

The body was discovered at about 5 p.m. Tuesday outside a home on the 300 block of Dalton Street, a road off McDonough Boulevard near the federal penitentiary. John Cross, chief administrative and investigative officer for the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office, said Thursday that the remains had been identified as those of 25-year-old Rachel Batelaan.

The body was originally reported to have been discovered in Grant Park but the area is better described as Chosewood Park. Neither cause nor manner of death had been determined.

“It’s still under investigation by our office,” Cross said.

Atlanta police spokesman Sgt. Greg Lyon said Wednesday that preliminary investigation “did not suggest obvious signs of trauma on the victim’s body.” Officer Kim Jones, another APD spokesperson, said Thursday that Batelaan had been reported missing, but not with her department.

“I don’t know what jurisdiction made the report,” she said.
